This may be a dumb question but if a juror claims after the trial that he or she ignored the defense does it matter at all legally?

Throw it out! We knew that Roger would not receive a fair trial, and a juror admitting as much is clear grounds for dismissal. Government can refile if they wish, but should be in a neutral jurisdiction without a biased judge and jury.
