They just have to frame Sondland’s claims of quid pro quo as just his opinion and focus on his testimony that he never had first hand knowledge of Trump’s intentions. Sondland’s “2+2=4” hardly constitutes hard evidence.

Pay attention. It was originally about the White House visit after Zelenskyy was elected. But when he was hesitant to play ball, Trump withheld aid to pressure him.
