You know, in fairness, I do believe that arming the Mujahideen in the 80s against the Soviets was in our interest of forcing the collapse of the USSR. I think our playing neo-empire in the ME after the Persian Gulf war in the 90s contributed heavily to the rise of Al Qaeda.

They totally misunderstood Islamists...should have stayed out of afbombistan in the 80s& left the Soviets to work it out..the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” calculation doesn’t work with Islamists.
