When I worked at Publix we are specifically trained to not correct customers who abuse the express lane. It happens at least twice a shift and is typically not a big deal except expeess lane doesn’t have a dedicated bagger. A good cashier will just speed through

I feel guilty if I miscount and have 11 items in the express lane at Publix. I always apologize. Unless otherwise advised to use express lane, Erica Johnson was just another clueless and rude customer.

I have asked cashiers in several stores why they don’t tell people w/too many items to use another lane and have been told every time - we are not allowed to tell customers that. If you aren’t going to enforce it, why have express lanes at all?

They count on the Honor System. Those without honor, abuse the system.

Perhaps Publix realized early on that they were dealing with adult children who were incapable of learning any other way.

I think Publix’s policy is the smallest of the issues here.

I just don’t think they wanted to get involved. I myself have made the mistake of using the express lane when I was a few items over. It was at Publix in Tampa. The lady ringing me up saw how pissed the guy behind me was & told me “next time you have to use the regular lane”.

Corporations are in uncharted waters dealing with these fame-seeking false race claims. They're probably just experimenting to find the most effective response. Apparently "always back down and give in" is having measurably negative effects on their bottom line.

She stands there intimidating him which tells me that she did EXACTLY what he says she did.

I fully agree. She knows she was lying and couldn't care less. Some people live for attention and to stir up trouble
