Another alternative-instead of going straight to college, try working a year or two in the field you are interested in then go to college using the money you have earned. Some employers will also help pay for your education.

Yeah, but only 1% Americans serve and would be eligible. From that 1%, not all have the academic aptitude or are flagged which will not qualify them for the GI Bill. And good luck to 75% + of potential recruits who get DQ'd at MEPS or what-not.
