Exactly. It’s also how protest works. Burning your country’s flag shows your disdain for it, or a part of it (like the government that runs it). And one of this country’s founding principles is distrust, and if necessary, resistance to your government.

If the people decide that their government has become tyrannical, they have every right to burn the symbol of that government (regardless of if they are shooting yet or not)

I just see the logic as, if flag burning is bad and is a precursor to some type of armed conflict, then outlawing the act would expedite that process...
