As a non American, it strikes me that the 'idea' of the US is *so* impressive partly *because* it values your liberty even to the point of desecrating its flag. The US will pick itself up, dust off, and say.. 'You'll need to do more than that to break us'.

I sympathize, an agree that it stands for something special. But does the fact that the flag *represents* what was worth dying for mean the flag was worth dying for? It's just my humble 'outsider' opinion, and I respect your's. Wonderful to be free to do that!
