My husband's dad was set to be a prof ball player & shattered his arm. Ended up in a MI factory, heavy drinker, gambled pay away. As a boy, my hubs helped drag his passed out dad into the house and bathe him. Now, we have a no alcohol house. Not worth the risk.

I have a friend that helps addicts. She was an addict herself for 25 years. She never gives up on anyone. It is miraculous to see some I would have given up on long ago get sober. Never give up.
