Interestingly enough the Brits wanted to bomb the Russian oil fields in 39-40 to stop shipments to Germany. They even sent reconnaissance flights over the fields, but didn't go further. That would have really changed history in retrospect.

Poland was a red line, but, especially given the Soviet perfidy, not one the Allies were able to defend. Esp. given the cowardice of the Low Countries, which refused to allow British and French help until AFTER the Germans crossed their frontiers.
