Hashing passwords is a one way operation. Since most hashing algorithms are fairly good these days and a dictionary attack can be defeated by limiting login attempts and putting a timer between login attempts, bringing in an expert witness on the subject should be sufficient.

Brute force protections only work on difficult to crack passwords, dictionary attacks work on non-salted hashes if the password store is obtained. And most hashing algorithms being good implies the software uses one of them :-!
