Jon refuses to execute unlawful orders issued by a commander who had proven themselves to be a genocidal war criminal. Isn't that what we would want American soldiers to do?

Not just American military. UCMJ clear on this, but so is Geneva Conventions et al. He did the right thing, and is punished as the Queen-slayer.

I can’t believe how many sad fools are still team Dany, especially after what she did to Kings Landing. It’s rather disturbing. The Starks were always the hero’s. Always.

Jon has always tried to do the right thing. When you go off on a personal vandetta and murder thousands of people, including women and children, he had no choice. I hate what they did to her character, but she had to die. She wasn't done killing for power.

I blame the writers. Someone needs to take their crayons away.

It reminded me to a flashback from a scene in Inception when Mal tries to convince Cobb to create their own world just like Dany tried to do with Jon and both men ended up stabbing the woman they loved (for Cobb it was in his dream)
