Arya being a Mary Sue has nothing to do with training or gender It has to do with her defeating a whole army with one blow in a war the entire show had been building up to and throwing out years of Beyond the Wall plot If Gendry had done that it would have been just as dumb

Instead, HBO decided to insert her character into the overall narrative arc of the Night's King, the "Big Bad" of the series, who has spent years facing off against Jon Snow, and recently Daenerys. Jon's narrative has been building to take on the Night's King and restore the Pact

Dany and Jon joining forces to defeat the Night's King would have fulfilled this narrative arc, whether at Winterfell or in King's Landing. However, D&D decided to reduce their writing to tumblr-fanfic levels and have Arya jump out of a tree to save the day Deux ex Mary Sue

I don’t get all this hatred of game of thrones? It’s like 50% of my feed today... it’s a tv show for gods sake, I don’t think of them as being totally logical and realistic.

Can you not admit that there was foreshadowing for this, though? I knew she was going to do the deed when Bran gave her the blade. She was proven to be the best in combat when she bested Brianne, she was shown to be stealth when she snuck up on Jon, & Melisandre alluded to it.

She hasn't dedicated her entire life to kill the ones who killed her family to leave the last living members of her family to die at the hands of the Night King

The Night King is too powerful to be defeated by any other member of the cast. He has superhuman strength, can snap polearms like they're twigs, his blade cuts through armor and he can throw a spear with enough force to kill a dragon. The only way to kill him is assassination.

Well storming her childhood home with an army of the undead would ruin what little family she has left.
