In fact, using Arya to defeat the Army of the Undead detracts from her character arc. Arya's story is one of revenge. Revenge for her family, and the fallen that she loves. This is her deepest motivating factor throughout the entire series and what drives her onward

Arya's narrative arc has been a quest for ultimate revenge on the people who ruined her life - the Lannisters, and in particular, Cersei Lannister. Arya going after Queen Cersei, who killed her father, is what her story has worked to since the very beginning

Instead, HBO decided to insert her character into the overall narrative arc of the Night's King, the "Big Bad" of the series, who has spent years facing off against Jon Snow, and recently Daenerys. Jon's narrative has been building to take on the Night's King and restore the Pact

Dany and Jon joining forces to defeat the Night's King would have fulfilled this narrative arc, whether at Winterfell or in King's Landing. However, D&D decided to reduce their writing to tumblr-fanfic levels and have Arya jump out of a tree to save the day Deux ex Mary Sue

she has no connection to the Night King....that's what I find annoying. Jon and the NK didn't even fight. Arya's big kill should be Cersei considering she's on her "list." Arya killing the Night King made no sense thematically. Luckily there is no NK in the books

Arya killing the NK has been foreshadowed since season 2

We see Viserion engulf Jon in blue flame. Cut to Arya leaping at NK. He grabs her. As he is about to finish her, he's run through and the army shatters. Camera pans and behind him is Jon, clothing burnt away, holding a shattered Longclaw.

I thought at first that Bran grabbed the knife and did the deed. I'm disappointed I was wrong.

Just stop. The entire story was building to that moment for 7 seasons. Arya is the assassin. And the Night King’s death was always going to be the end of his army. The Hound, Bearic, Theon, Bran, Melissandra all got her to that moment.
