Jesus clearly indicates there is a hierarchy in His Kingdom ("first will be last and the last, first” - Matthew 19:30; 20:16; Mark 10:31; Luke 13:30). We pray those closest to God to intercede for us. Mary & Saints (even passed relatives), can be prayed to, but not worshiped.

Hail Mary! Full of Grace. The Lord is with thee! Blessed are thou among women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb! Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners. Now! And at the hour of our death! A prayer of power, of faith, of trusting God's will.

Yup. Our Lady was protected/cared for by St John too after Jesus’ death & redirection. She was w/ John when he wrote his Gospel.
