"If we dump the water from planes, it'll damage the building." Then dump the water in smaller doses, instead of 5000 gallon batches. Besides, they could have used retardant dust/foam which disperses more evenly. They have it in job lots at every major airport in the world.

I am in Alexandria, Virginia how many ever miles away so I don't know what the truth is. But i didn't see any "water shooting out of a hose" for more than two hours after the start of the fire on TV. That if true is a tragedy. IMO they could have done better.

Worked in 130yo beautiful, historic, huge Victorian hotel, a designated landmark. The owners said they had to choose between potential water damage or gutting by fire. They chose water damage and the massive structure was retro fitted with a sprinkler system. IMO a smart choice.

There's no way that water would of done more harm then good, considering what is left of the building during this fire.
