Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent A time of fasting, sacrifice, and prayer This is the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday - The Resurrection - Many Christians see it as an imitation of the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and battling with Satan in the desert

Lent is a time of reflection. We remember the sacrifices Jesus made to become closer to God. We make similar sacrifices to do the same.

Jesus is God in the flesh. He did not go to the cross to become closer to God, He went to the cross for us. God does not ask us for any sacrifice, He says to repent of our sins and follow Him. The sacrifice was already made at the cross.

It's 2019 and people who have lost their religion and God-given purpose obsessively read and quote Harry Potter to justify their moral actions

Aside from the religious importance, fasting brings great health benefits which the ancients understood.

Pro tip When avoiding meat on Ash Wednesday, Brussels sprouts are not meat, but your house will smell terrible.

I can’t imagine being tempted by the devil the way Christ was in the desert. It took all of his strength
