I believe Carpe also used it via YouTube’s catalog of approved music for content creation, thus no need for a synch license. REM’s publisher must have struck some kind of deal with YT for use. It’s on them not Carpe. Twitter removing it like that is just pure knee-jerk bias.

This is the most attention REM has had in years.

I'm sure REM will return any money they happen to make due to this new attention

@CarpeDonktum and@m_millsey were cool with one another, the first amendment and having differences of opinion. It was a great teachable moment that@jack took away

Its infringement of copyright. "the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same"

True, but YT offers a catalog of music for content creation. He pulled it from there, so 100% legal. But nice try with the cut & paste from Google lol.

This wasn’t an example of a parody though. Weird Al actually has to change the lyrics or the music (like in the polka songs) of the songs he parodies. YouTubers know that if you play music in the background of a video (even if you provide commentary)you will get a copyright claim
