Is it? There's a "Great Slave Lake" in Canada. Many think that this name refers to "slaves" however, it actually refers to local "slavey" people. Wouldn't be surprised if naming of slavs in English have the same mismatch and confusion behind it

Yeah, I know such an explanation. I merely pointed that sometimes there might be confusion in namings (due to some error in some old handwritten book or other misunderstandings etc).

In our family history it shows indentured servant Irish Male in 1860 census.

Indenture was a contract just like apprenticeship at the time. A document was duplicated on the same sheet of paper. Both signed then torn into two parts creating an indentured border. At the end of contract the Borders were matched up and given to the servant.

My biology professor taught us that there is no scientific basis for classification of humans by race. Every “race has a skin color range from light to dark. Hair from straight to curly. Every race can have any color hair or eyes.
