The first Christians or I say the first gentile church were called Followers of the Way, he was the church in Antioch mentioned in Acts 11. They were not Catholic at all. I could be wrong although I don’t think I am.

Merging church/state: biggest win state, biggest loss church, history is clear. Pre-Constantine church never run like a state, now is. Definitely affected the understanding of the teachings of Christ!

Because the Romans corrupted it. So instead of martyring Christians, they took the teachings of Christianity and incorporated Roman mythology into it. The Virgin Mary (ironically) is the goddess Venus.
