It’s not about oil. The people made a choice of freedom from oppression and we should have their back (hopefully just the fear of our strength will be enough). Do not attach evil greedy motives. Unnecessary demonization

To make this only about oil is incorrect. Assuming compassion has nothing to do with it, Venezuela is destabilising it's neighbors with a refugee crisis. Imagine losing close partners to China/Russia and they settling military bases in lawless countries around you.

well, i mean, other problems are indirectly about oil. mainly, the inflation problem with the Bolivar, which is based on an oil reserve that hasn't even been guaranteed to ever all come out of the ground. the cash shortage due to inflation is made worse by Colombia (1/2)

Is anybody seriously discussing boots on the ground? Sounds like it’s a general civil unrest situation and we’re simply picking which head of state we recognize.

Have you ever talked to a Venezuelan?

You should have seen Venezuelan twitter last night. They were all very emotional and full of hope, they might get away from suppression. Oil production is down to less than 20% due to incompetence. So that is not it So far all surrounding countries including US and Canada agree

The USA is already the biggest buyer of Venezuelan oil and probably gets it below cost from socialists. Puttting capitalist back in charge is not a cost-effective reason for regime change.

Because a rogue anti American player can exploit that oil if they assist with the regime change. Dude, you’re way off here. Your analogies on past failures are irrelevant@in this case

Not a neocon myself (having seen war, I tend to be against it). That said, if diplomacy is to exist, should the U.S. not make clear what government they recognize? And if the U.S. should do so, wouldn't it make sense for that to be the freedom oriented of the options?
