This isn’t a sarcastic tweet Studies have shown the release of One Flew Over drastically altered public opinion on all mental health facilities Then people demanded that govt dismantle them So they didhttps://twitter.com/JackPosobiec/status/1087456241209741313 …

Hollywood smeared the mental health industry with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and within 15 years the institution system was being dismantled People lost jobs and patients lost care facilities and were forced out on the street Big Pharma sure loved it though

Then we saw the rise of homeless on the streets, drug addiction amongst these people, crime, disease, etc. It's very sad it has evolved to a crisis in the US.

and then we saw the rise in the homeless population. Not sure how these poor people are better off on the street than in an institution......

Knew it was liberals closing down mental health facilities but didn't know trigger. Recent stabbings, murders of family members in my former city done by those in mental health system but roaming free. I trained at Psych facility, it was NOT a snake pit and that was in 70s.

No, not quite, Jack. The debate had been going on long before the movie was released. Article from 1984, after Reagan administration started closing facilities with no real plan to take care of residents. https://www.nytimes.com/1984/10/30/science/how-release-of-mental-patients-began.html …

This was, of course, helpful to Ronnie's dismantling of mental health facilities, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mental_Health_Systems_Act_of_1980 …

I think Geraldo’s Willowbrook expose was more responsible.
