Yes and my sister is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's patients. Stuck with a roommate that screams help 24/7 my sister is 55 !!! Bc now more help for the mentally I'll!!!.

No one in the mental health community gave a damn about some Hollywood movie. The real reason was the "mainstreaming movement" from the Carter Administration. Mainstreaming pushed them out of institutions into communities, inadequate supervision. They quit taking meds -> homeless

Book came out in 62... neither the book or the movie remotely affected the closing of state hospitals, which was solely a way for the states to save money by shifting costs to the feds via SSI program ....
