the character drama was so confusing it was like tuning into a an episode of Game of Thrones mid-season but not seeing any of the preceding episodes, yet they were all so flatly drawn none of them were memorable also the plot was just the opening scroll of A New Hope

dude exactly. every time people say they love that movie i'm like name 3 characters off the top of your head besides Jyn Erso. i was only having fun at the final battle once I accepted the film as a worse version of Black Hawk Down but in space

Most cant even name Jyn. The only interesting story in it was her dad but they killed him off. Also there's a Force-loving character but no Force elements in the film I did like the battle, but why did the Empire use AT-ATs on their own base!

she had no interesting character traits other than "she misses her dad and now he's dead." also the AT-ATs were there because the fans will remember them and might clap just like we were expected to when they flashed R2 and C3PO on screen for no reason.

The whole plot of the movie is just the opening scroll of A New Hope They could have overcome that with interesting characters and alternate perspectives like her father being on the inside of the Empire But instead we got Pew Pew Pew

It’s easily the best of the Disney Star Wars movies. Which may not be saying much, but still...

Those were cargo walkers, Jack. Not actual AT-ATs. They were bigger but with much lighter armor and lacked the heavy "chin cannons" the AT-AT had. They weren't made for front line combat, but they could still pose a real threat to infantry with their defensive weapons.
