Star Trek was far more libertarian, philosophically, than anything. And in fact it's the exact opposite of Socialism or Progressivism (which is re-branded Communism). No taxation, no theft of property, no censorship, no political correctness, no racial division.

People confuse Starefleet's conduct, which is run similar to a military organization, as the actual basis of Star Trek society as a whole. 99% of everything you see in TNG is based within that limited framework. When broken out, it reveals a normal capitalist society.

True. You feel this most strongly in there first two seasons. In one way its very innovative storytelling, a post scarcity/post capital galaxy. But its also telling that the first two seasons are regarded by most fans as the worst, excluding Sub Rosa as the pinnacle of bad.
