I'm Canadian & this is true of us as well. No offense to my American cousins, but we have the same lifestyle or better & free healthcare, provided by US military defense. Have been telling folks this for years. Have no idea why people complain about Americans. Ill say thank you

It's easy to knock Americans - not all they do I agree with - when I recall the row upon row of graves in UK Cemeteries of soldiers sailors and airmen who came to the defense of my country in WW1 and WW2 I cannot help but say than God you were there - my criticisms insignificant.

Maybe we should downsize our military so we can afford healthcare for all of our citizens

Too bad certain ideologies preach the destruction of others, otherwise, totally.

Yes while Mr. deGaulle had a contempt for both Britain and the USA his very existence as the French President was entirely due to those brave men and women from these countries who were never to come back home. A contemptible man in every way. Let is not forget them....ever.

De Gaulle got his contempt because he was snubbed by Roosevelt and Patton. He was fortunate to have gotten his position. The majority of the FFI, Free French Insurgence, we’re Communist, but were our Allies. He represented a minority, but was not Communist.

Very true Brent. It was in fact Canadian regiments that bore the brunt of D-Day. I know my father when he was alive was of the opinion that Britain should have fortified itself and let Europe get on with it under German occupation. But that would have left many vulnerable people.

My favorite Canadian of WWII, though I'm ready to know more was William Stephenson. IMO that guy did about as much as any one person could do to help win it and yet he gets almost NO plaudits. His WWII story is told in "A Man Called Intrepid" one of the best books I've ever read

Once the migrants overrun Europe their will be no reason to defend them as Europe will be lost. We should pull out now, save the money and have all that military on our soil defending us and preventing our being overrun too!
