I'm not sure but many years ago I knew a Greek family who had emigrated and had kids here in America. They all pronounced it YEE-dos.

A Greek work beginning with a gamma will often be pronounced like a 'y' when followed by a vowel. My name in Greek in the nominative sounds like 'Yorgo '.

That is the letter gamma. Indeed a hard g. The second letter is actually an upsilon. I don’t know if it’s right in contemporary Greek, but I go with gyuros (hard g followed by you rose)
