    Interesting thread. Important that focusing on local solutions doesn’t ignore the necessary role of the state in guaranteeing service provision.

    Have seen this being shared a lot, with a depressingly predictable lack of scrutiny. Apparently Whitehall-funded services can be cut but local co-operatives can't. Where to begin? 1/8

    You’ll be getting better and more frequent services thanks to HS2, that’s my point. Very few services in Wales stay entirely within it for their entire journey so any improvement to the English side almost always has a benefit to the Welsh side

    This is the key question Blair and the Labour centre/right need to answer.

    Im unsure what far left means today. Whatever Corbyn may *personally* believe I don’t recall the part in the manifesto about the dictatorship of the proletariat or ceasing the means of production? If you (or any1) could explain which specific policies you think of as ‘far left?’

    Greens/anyone with even a slight concern about climate, take note. This is the next step in the Tories’ culture war.

    The Corbynista tin ear to the needs of working people lives on through Mark Drakeford. Politically this will be great for us but it would be better for Wales if this position changed. The refusal to build the M4 relief road only hurts hardworking people.

    Hell of a thread about Momentum here. It wasn't that long ago that young people were completely put off by politics, so its really not a bad thing that thousands of them are volunteering for a political party. Whatever its faults, Momentum deserves to be taken seriously.

    I’m seeing lots of people saying that now, Momentum needs to step aside and let the sensible centrists take over Labour. You need to realise how incredibly unlikely that is to happen, and to start taking the current Labour party more seriously as an intellectual project (1/?)

    The Lab Right should recognise the explicit anti-austerity stance advocated by the Lab Left resonated far better than the tepid 2015 manifesto. The Labour Left should recognise many people who agreed with the above position refused to vote Labour, mainly citing the leadership

    Unpopular view: Labour is in a good place for the future. Its left program was written for a post-Brexit UK, which Johnson will deliver and pay the electoral price for. The Corbyn(ista) program is the future, but the Corbyn(ista) leadership is the past.

    Excellent thread. The angry reaction to momentum seems to completely ignore the circumstances that made it necessary in the first place - Labour, like all soc dem parties, was losing its base without gaining a new one. That has now changed.

    That speech just proved why is a very, very formidable politician. Proud of his achievement yet full of humility at its consequences, a shift to moderate politics, powerfully delivered, full of humour that connects with many people. And "let's get breakfast done"
