The glans is a mucous membrane, like an eyeball. The foreskin protects it, similar to an eyelid. It also moves back & forth during sex in a complimentary way to lubrication. There's like 16 total functions although idk them all off the top of my head.
As well, the foreskin is fused to the glans in infants. It helps keep gunk out of there, whereas circumcision creates an open wound that gets exposed to feces and urine in infants' diapers.
