The state Dept. of Health argues that the highest of COVID+ residents entered nursing homes 4/14, a week after the peak mortality in nursing homes. If the admissions of + residents were driving the fatalities, those dates should have been reversed, DOH says.

It’s difficult for reporters to fact check the Cuomo administration on this. Nursing home fatality by county of residence was first released on April 13. Nursing home fatality by individual home was released April 15. We can only track change in figures from that point forward.

The “peak mortality” in nursing homes mentioned in the report might not account for NH residents who died at a hospital since deaths among residents are counted as those who died in the facility, not outside of it. The true scope of how many NH residents died is still unknown

Who is being counted and how could very much throw a wrench in the Department of Health’s conclusion that the March 25 directive was “not a driver.” Unless we know the exact methodology, this “report” is just the state Dept. of Health validating itself.
