Is there a way to say “Medicare for all is the future of American healthcare. Period. But we may not be able to get it through Congress in 2021. But you know where I believe we can get it through? The state legislature of California, of New York,” etc.
Cards on the table: my preference is public option with private options But , I’m just thinking through the probability of M4A passing in a way that doesn’t have a bunch of carveouts making it not really single payer or provisions making it way more expensive than promised

Ah. Fair. That’s why I want to do it state by state rather than nationally right now. That’s how Canada got M4A not during a crisis. Prove it works really well in California and New York then neighboring states will join their markets and the purple Texas will try it, etc.

Or how Canada got single payer, rather.
