A thought I’ve been attempting to articulate further is how much of politics is based not on what voters want, but on what elected officials and pundits *think* voters want — a view that is largely removed from, you know, voters.
This is partly because “what voters want” is generally an incoherent and capricious mix of things that come down to wanting more for less. I guess that punditry offers a filter. But politicians should probably try communicating back to people that they have to make choices
