Right, it is more conservative than the original Heritage (or wherever) plan. They have had years of saying they can do better and they have no alternate plan (that has broad support). There are some plans that have niche support.

I don’t think Republicans believe that everyone should have healthcare. They are social Darwinists at their core.

Part of my original point is that Dems underperform partly because of this mentality of ‘I know what’s best and if you disagree it’s probably bc you’re a bad person who wants poor people to die’ That’s not great messaging

Well if they aren’t proposing a different policy that gets people insured.... Like, people die from not having insurance.

Do you know of anything they are proposing that would ensure coverage?

They argued vociferously against the ACA, and didn’t even propose anything different. If they had their way there would not have been Medicaid expansion, or pre-existing condition protection, or any real mechanism to subsidize insurance for those who can’t afford it.

I’m not sure what to take away from that set of positions other than they don’t much *care* about whether people are covered or not. It seems to me that they aren’t concerned about getting more folks covered at all. They don’t see it as a worthwhile goal.

Do you think they have good intentions in wanting to repeal the ACA? Like that repeal would make America healthier?
