      But we don't cherry pick non profit status based on viewpoint from the NRA to the ACLU to churches either. There's no way to go down that road without developing a weapon that will later be used against the left

      “Used against the left” doesn’t move me at all. But it absolutely would be used against Muslims, used against poor and minority churches, would be used against the most marginalized segments of our society and not for the benefit of the LGBT community

      This statement is demonstrably false. Any think tank that has tax-exempt status is registered as a 501(c)3, which means it’s explicitly prohibited from lobbying. 501(c)4 orgs can do lobbying, but those expenditures are not tax deductible. All of this info is publicly available

          Heritage Foundation is a 501c3 that does not lobbying or direct political intervention. It does have a 501c4 arm that does direct political advocacy. Just like Center for American Progress has CAP Action, which is a 501c4. In both cases lobbying expenses are not tax deductible.
