Yes, for Republicans... but also for centrist progressives who want to preserve “neighborhood character” and for anti-development leftists who keep talking about how “there’s already enough empty housing.” So, maybe this is an issue that cuts across the political spectrum

There are a whole lot of people in SF or Marin County or Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope and similar places that will fight new development tooth and nail but would never think of voting for a Republican. But if you want to play word games with political ideology, cool. Go for it
