And nobody outside the left has any faith whatsoever that future complaints can be reasoned out with a "be respectful" heuristic. At least not one that's funny. I think this in turn leads some of them to push back against the entire concept.

That said, fear is probably overblown. Chris Rock can't do his routine about "understanding" what OJ Simpson did to Nicole Brown, but it didn't sink him (and that was... iffy to say the least... at the time and not just retroactively).

1/ I'm thinking about the comedians who have suffered public wrath (Michael Richards, Louis CK, Tosh, etc) and... they all seem to have said/done things that were considered pretty bad at the time. And the older ones who've just gotten eye rolls (e.g.: Cleese, Seinfeld) have

Is that a thing? I’ve seen *non-provocative* artists cry fowl when ppl thought they stepped over the line. I don’t know that Ive seen an artist trying to provoke act surprised of anyone is.

This is actually a pretty good example of what I'm talking about. This week I've seen about 100 "PEOPLE OTHER THAN ME ARE FREAKING OUT ABOUT ABOUT CHAPPELLE AND THEY NEED TO STOP!!!" takes and a total of zero "Dave Chappelle crossed a line and he needs to stop" takes.
