Failure of the Sopranos to displace the Godfather in cultural preeminence is another "Boomers holding onto power" story.
Not sure it has anything to do with that. The Godfather is an objectively good movie made by a director and actors maybe at the height of their creative powers. Sopranos is a great TV show but TV has gotten better since

Rewatch the first few episodes of Sopranos. Borders on cringy. It’s towards the top of my list, but from the technical perspective of making television, it might as well be LA Law There have been much worse shows since that look much better. Few movies look as good as Godfather
