she literally told gay men who were HIV positive that they could cure themselves with prayer and visualization, suggesting they should go off of their meds. it’s nice that she’s saying impressive stuff about reparations but let’s not get blinded herehttps://twitter.com/brosandprose/status/1156372410339397633 …

Did she “literally” say that? Or is that someone’s figurative interpretation of something she said? Is there a citation?

This is an editorial but has links to info about her. She did literally say this, yes.https://www.nbcnews.com/think/amp/ncna1035956?__twitter_impression=true …

I read the Berlatsky piece and some of the links and I don’t see anything that shows her “literally” saying these things. Being a new age kook is goofy, but it’s simply not dangerous

She called mandated vaccines “draconian”/“Orwellian,” & though she amended her statement, she said she “doesn’t trust propaganda on either side.” Comparing legitimate science behind vaccines to anti-vax pseudoscience is dangerous imo, & her history w/ HIV+ people is questionable

OK, so we’re in agreement that she “literally” didn’t tell gay men with HIV that they could heal themselves with positive energy?

In her book, she says she told people w/ AIDS to forgive others bc forgiveness had healing powers such as medicine, which I think is harmful. Af far as I know, you’re right that she never said ‘heal yourself fully by positive thinking,’ though. Apologies for misusing ‘literally.’

If you really believe that telling people to forgive or trying to help people with serious illnesses to get into a better frame of mind is “dangerous,” then I don’t know what to say. Agree to disagree

I think her intent is/was good, & I know your mental state can impact your physical state; I just don’t agree with her stance, as the implication seems to be ‘this will make you better.’ Being chronically ill, I’ve been told to ‘pray myself well.’ Thanks for the respectful convo!
