Do you really think it would have been *preferable* if she glossed over their motives, or made excuses for it? What should she have said about the people who made the racist memes he retweets? Are we such babies we cannot handle the truth?

What is your opinion on the “good people on both sides” remark? Should we call the white supremacists from Charlottesville racist or deplorable? Should we be castigated for doing so?

FWIW, I thought her statements were defensible on the merits, but they clearly backfired. (I felt at the time that it wasn't politically good, but I didn't appreciate until later how much it hurt.) https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2016/11/21/understanding-undecided-voters/9EjNHVkt99b4re2VAB8ziI/story.html …pic.twitter.com/qrUFHqWWPt

Spot on. Whether meant that way or not, the 'perception' to a great many was that she had accused almost 25% of the national population of being horrible people. Clearly not the case. Many responded w/ defiance and entrenchment.

Do I really need to go through the polling data to show you that near or more than a quarter of the country espouse objectively racist, sexist, and ESPECIALLY anti-Muslim ideas? Starting with this?pic.twitter.com/h9bwTIMvQq

Gallup did a poll showing that only 45% of republicans would ever vote for a Muslim president. Only 61% would vote for a gay or lesbian president.

1/ That exactly why I said that Republicans have an exclusionary vision but they’ll take anyone who doesn’t push back on that vision. Black women aren’t a big demo for the Trump crowd but Diamond and Silk have a million followers.

You believe democrats *won’t* take anyone who doesn’t push back on their vision? (Diamond & Silk are grifters and their fans are white.)

Of course the Dem platform is more inclusive and Diamond and Silk exist to comfort white Trump supporters into believing that they’re not racists. That’s entirely my point. Trump has made the bar very low, which is how someone with no business in the race got >40 million votes

But I thought you were saying democrats were not inclusive in their messaging and republicans were. As in they would “take” anyone who didn’t disagree and we somehow wouldn’t?
