      Their disagreement has almost nothing to do with scholarship or lack of scholarship. It’s a difference of opinion on what effect reparations would have in the future. Maybe Hughes’ opinion is wrong, but it’s not something that can really be addressed through more research

      Disrespect? I like TNC a lot. He is a great journalist and a great writer. But he’s not an economist or an academic historian. It’s OK to just disagree with Hughes without having to resort to this credentialist nonsense
