We shouldn’t even be putting these two men in the same category and this set up legitimizes the writing of someone who has not done the scholarship.https://twitter.com/GuardianUS/status/1141455776902451201 …

Their disagreement has almost nothing to do with scholarship or lack of scholarship. It’s a difference of opinion on what effect reparations would have in the future. Maybe Hughes’ opinion is wrong, but it’s not something that can really be addressed through more research

Ignorance is the reason fallacies reign. You shouldn’t be invited to the debate table if you are not armed.

What fallacy did Hughes bring to the the table?

His arguments are based on his ignorance of historical truths.

What historical truths did he deny? He said he’s in favor of paying reputations to people who survived slavery and/or Jim Crow. His only disagreement is about extending that to descendants. Maybe that’s the wrong opinion, but there’s no fallacy there

The fallacy is that the descendants don't suffer the effects of both. Or that Jim Crow is not an extension of slavery. Or that the present is not an extension of the past. If he studied, he would know exactly how oppression has extended it's hand into the present
