Has anything been written on the inherent ambiguity of Online? Things like: not knowing what's parody/sarcasm or not, or where someone's coming from politically, or which identity categories are actually theirs, etc. cc

Online has very much the characteristics of the classic confidence game. The short con is convincing you to fully bare your ideological self in the name of some cause. Once that happens, online can extract value from you and give you nothing but frustration in return
