I don't buy the argument that it's unethical or somehow out-of-bounds for journalists to seek and reveal information about a person who intentionally altered a video to provide a false impression of a political opponent and posted it to outside forums hoping it would go viral.
Depends on whose ethics, no? You get caught doing a crime, the ethics of the criminal justice system says snitching on your accomplices is the right thing to do. OTOH, the ethics of the street says being a snitch is the worst possible thing
