Sorry folks I am in Hong Kong and often miss news cycles. Can someone explain to me why we are all tweeting and Guatemala and El Salvador in the 1980s?

I'm just gonna put it out there that litigating which Cold War interventions were right or wrong is super hard partly because we today know how the Cold War ends. But we often forget that its ending was shocking, expected by basically nobody, and could have happened differently.

Okay, I am up to speed now. Ilhan Omar vs. Elliot Abrams. Seems like a boring argument. But I did see this question from Omar and now I am super fascinated in what y'all think:pic.twitter.com/L0GtYXMkY9

So let's do this poll-wise! "If you know Guiado would murder 5,000 innocent civilians in cold blood, but also would overthrow Maduro, reinstate free and fair elections, and roll back Cuban/Chinese/Russian influence, would you support Guiado taking power?"

Now, CONVENIENTLY, this question is meaningless, because the actual horrible violence is 100% coming from Maduristas, while Guiado seems pretty committed to doing things the right way. But imagine that isn't the case. Imagina Guiado is actually waging a violent insurgency.

Probably naive to assume that the Venezuelan opposition is all high road and flower power. Hard to see how any fight with this much at stake wouldn't have folks on both sides willing to do a lot of violence
