1/ I would find this Tweet more sensible if I could figure out what "socialise production" means. Is there a single historical precedent where it hasn't met "at the whim of some small minority that professes to act in society's best interest?"

2/ Sometimes that small minority are the wealthiest, sometimes members of the only allowed political party. And sometimes they are members of a democratically-elected government. But the idea that any one group can claim to be acting in society's best interests is suspect at best

Is there any society you can identify, Grace, where socializing production of a large sector of the economy resulted in a net positive? I'm struggling to think of one. I can think of plenty that went the opposite way.

At least now we have a falsifiable claim that can be investigated rather than a statement of ideological belief. Now where is the proof that industry was more "productive and democratic" when it was in the hands of th state?

Most of the IT sector was developed by government. The government has some democratic connection in that you can vote for a representative. Private sector has no democratic connection
