Does anyone know of any federal workers who are actively searching for new employment as a result of the shutdown? Anyone know anyone thinking about it?

Problem is that if you just leave your federal job, you're making the question of back pay and benefits more complicated. There's no boss to give your notice and no HR to outboard you

That brings up a different question! Presumably there were people who might have already been looking for other employment. Would their search be stymied because they are unable to quit their current job?

I though that you meant people who ready to walk away from their fed gig immediately. In the federal workforce (like any), there's already a baseline of people looking to leave. The furlough most definitely causes that to increase

When I was furloughed in 2013, I took the foreign service test. Probably was never going to join the foreign service, but I had two weeks off so why not. Probably lots of Feds filling their time with job searches
