I know many intelligent, highly-educated professionals - Republicans - who believe Obama was from Kenya, minorities are genetically lazy and stealing from hard-working whites, vaccines cause autism, Jews control the world, the Earth was created 4,000 years ago via magic... etc.

Agree strongly. In addition, education needs good administrators. In New Mexico, our public schools are pretty well funded. But our kids have some of the lowest performance metrics nationwide because of shortcomings in leadership.

Get religion out of schools. Anything that pushes intelligent design, creationism, etc push it out back into its own church.

Exactly! I think a huge number of people can’t tell reliable sources of information from unreliable. The only way that changes is better education.

This. Education benefits society, not only individuals. The priorities for me, in a utopian America, should be: 1. Fix Prek-K12 education 2. Debt-free college. However, Prek-K12 depends on states. The federal gov. is constitutionally limited. That feeds into the blue/red divide.

"Free college" may depend on the federal government and it can serve as a form retroactive remedy. This is inefficient and the worse path. But it may be the only avaliable and practical solution in the midterm.
