    “Peregrine Falcon, Victoria Tower, Palace of Westminster” acrylic, 51 x 61 cms. For sale Peregrine falcons took up residence at the Houses of Parliament ten years ago. An early-day motion was even tabled at the House of Commons when they appeared. The bird pictured is a female.

    “Cley next the Sea after snow” acrylic, 70 x 37 cms. For sale. Cley next the Sea is actually situated a kilometre from the north Norfolk coast; separated from the North Sea by a strip of marshes and rough grazing which are a haven for birds and other wildlife.

    “Gurney’s Pitta”, gouache 22 x 29 cms. There’s no bird rarer than one that’s extinct. Gurney’s Pitta was thought to be such a species until its rediscovery in 1986 in Thailand. It is still endangered, despite the discovery of birds in Myanmar, the Thai birds having been lost.

    “Bittern”, gouache 37 x 19 cms. Bitterns can be elusive birds, difficult to observe in the large tracts of reeds they occupy when breeding, but a little easier to see in winter when they use smaller areas of habitat.

    “St. Mary’s Island, Whitley Bay”,acrylic, 51 x 23 cms. The lighthouse on St. Mary’s Island is a notable feature of the Northumbrian coast. The island lies just to the north of Whitley Bay and is connected to the mainland by a causeway at low tide.

    “Black-throated Thrush, ”, acrylic, 27 x 36 cms. This painting was commissioned by a bird-watcher who spends time every autumn in the Shetland Isles looking for rare birds. Last autumn he found an immature Black-throated Thrush, a rare bird from Central Asia, on Out Skerries.

    “Wryneck”, acrylic, 15 x 23 cms. For sale. This strange, cryptically camouflaged, relative of woodpeckers was once a widespread breeding bird in the U.K. Nowadays it is just a scarce passage migrant, appearing mainly in autumn.

    "Wrecked Whelker, Blakeney Harbour", gouache. Sold. On a trip to the north Norfolk coast exploring the landscape, I walked along the edge of Blakeney Harbour and found this picturesque wreck beside the sea wall.

    "Red-flanked Bluetail in Autumn", acrylic, 25 x 15 cms. Sold. A bird that once had a mythical status for twitchers is now a regular, if still rare, visitor to the UK. Still a great bird to see.

    Montagu’s Harrier: Off to roost acrylic, 37 x 26 cms This is one of the rarest breeding raptors in the U.K. Some years ago, a few pairs bred in Norfolk. One evening while driving through the area I came across a male in flight, presumably off to roost.
