A plot of land seeded and grown as mitigation for Cirl Buntings for building development in has attracted 50+ yellowhammers, at least 11 Cirl Buntings this winter - absolutely fantastic, more Buntings in this area than I've seen in more that 40 years!

Surprisingly I don't get that cold sitting out for 2 hours at dawn watching, sketching then finishing off the field paintings of the roosting long-tailed tits. My brain is working overload doing this so produces enough heat to keep me warm if I keep my hat on! Hembury Woods Devon

In 1883 Krakatoa erupted with a sound and pressure waves that circled the earth 4 times, rupturing eardrums 40 miles away and clearly heard 3000 miles away. Additional seismic activity continued in the months after as well as dark skies and red sunsets globally for many years.

SBBOT have been monitoring Turnstone populations in the Thanet Coast SPA for the last 20 years. The data shows an even greater decline than this study. Disturbance continues to be the main cause of wader assemblage decline in East Kent.

Fantastic aspiration for the new decade to restore England's upland wilderness. Blanket bogs are England's 'rainforest', storing carbon, reducing flood risk and supporting wonderful biodiversity

Oh dear, the carbon dioxide concentration has gone over 415ppm. It passed 400 only in 2013. When I was born in 1960 it was under 320. We are heading into a new world, one that might soon have characteristics of the Pliocene. Seat belts on everyone.
