In ~1 hour @Arty_KiloByte and I will be doing a filmmaking Q&A/retrospective on YouTube about A Red Pill and probably just drifting into general filmmaking.https://www.youtube.com/c/FoldingIdeas/live …

I hope the missing opening ~60 minutes of the stream is at some point restored for posterity. I missed the live because work and NHL hockey, and it would be ironic if Dan suffered from insufficient redundant data management. I'm sorry @clearascrystal for toxic youtube live chat.

It's there, it's just that for some reason (probably the system crash) it says it was posted last December.pic.twitter.com/I7NCdK6jPT

Huh. Looking at it this morning, it's not listed under your videos on the channel, although the archived livestream now starts at the beginning unlike when I started to watch it last night, so I guess Google fixed it. 3:15 is where you start answering Qs: https://youtu.be/8hDQe4TLsAs pic.twitter.com/mcXQSbtpDk

https://youtu.be/TIP-w5NeHFc  Looking at the notifications, I found the opening 8 minutes. I'd agree that there probably isn't anything in The Red Pill that an MRA would disagree/dislike, but the most damning anti-feminist segments are from the feminists interviewed, so selection bias?

I think Cassie Jaye tried to do a fly on the wall doc where she allows people to talk rather than put words in their mouths, but inherent in filmmaking is making choices. She also inserts her narrative of discovery into the centre of the story, so that compromises its objectivity

The one criticism with A Red Pill that came to my mind is that to me, MRA, NiceGuys/Incels, and /r/redpill are separate narratives that it does a disservice to the discourse to conflate into a single echo chamber. I think the change during preproduction to having multiple people

...on set helped in showing that there isn't just a single narrative at play, but that it is instead that there are multiple (92!) competing ones. For example, in my mind, the incel would see the alpha as a "Chad" and the Alpha would see disagree that a "nice guy" is owed sex...

for being "nice", but then I don't make a point of spending an huge amount of time reading through message boards about this regularly.

I could see the potential for a narrative short where 4ish distinct characters representing those views are having a discussion. There's '99/00 Canadian short of an ethnicly diverse group of men delayed overnight at an airport playing Risk discussing race politics that did this.

I'm torn as to whether such a short would be better served with a more diverse group discussion of gender studies/politics, but you're potentially diluting the discussion away from the problem with disaffected men, or if having those views represented enhances the narrative...

Anyways, sorry for filling up your twitter feed with my morning rambling before work, and thanks again for the Q&A. I look forward to your future video on camera equipment and whatever else suits your fancy.
