    Enormous loss to the country and to smart policy conversations, discourse, debate and outcomes. Combined with losing Stan Collender (), a double hit to the quality of policy journalism.

    One of the lions of policy journalism, a kind man and extraordinary colleague, Robert Pear, died last night. The NYT is retiring the "HEALTH" slug in his honor, because, as Dean Baquet and Elisabeth Bumiller put it in a note to staff, "it can only be by Pear."
